Pathway Fund’s response to rioting and violence across the UK

Responding to reports of rioting and violence in towns and cities around the UK, Pathway has said:

The past week has seen an unprecedented level of violence and attacks, against minoritised communities, especially Muslims and asylum seekers, in the UK. As an organisation created to deliver racial equity and inspire inclusive economic growth, across the UK, Pathway Fund is saddened by those actions. We sincerely hope that justice will be delivered, and that more resources will go to the communities affected, to enable the healing that will necessarily have to take place.

The riots and protests come from hatred and disenfranchisement, and we know that inclusive economic growth is one of the best antidotes to addressing this sentiment. The riots have exposed fault lines within the UK. Many of our staff are unfortunately no strangers to racial tension, but we hope that these events also provide a moment of reflection for the country. A racially more equitable society is good for all. We can harness diversity, to build a stronger society.

Fundamentally, we believe that a rising tide lifts us all. But the national tide won’t rise, and things won’t improve, until we see true inclusion – and as part of this, racial inclusion. Charities and social enterprises led by ethnic minorities – those closest to these emerging issues – provide us with an opportunity to drive that improvement, to inspire true inclusion, to bring about that tidal shift.

Pathway stands in solidarity with all those affected directly and indirectly, particularly Muslims and asylum seekers. As an organisation seeking to strengthen the investment infrastructure for ethnic minorities, we would like to extend our support to those affected. We will be continuing to monitor for further developments, but want to remind all those in our network that support is available, from our organisation. In the meantime, our team members are also taking time for self-care and to be braced for further challenges ahead. Together, we will work to create a better, more hopeful, future.
